Harbor House

Harbor House is a community development organization that serves families in the San Antonio district of Oakland, primarily those from Franklin Elementary School, Roosevelt Middle School, and Oakland High. We provide a safe place for opportunities, resources, and relationships to be shared so that all families in Oakland can flourish. Harbor House was founded in 1972 by a fourth grade teacher in Oakland who noticed that some of her students lacked basic necessities. Her faith compelled her to respond by gathering food, clothing, and books and handing them out from the trunk of her car. What started out as one woman responding to the needs of her students, is now a multi-faceted community development organization offering the hope to hundreds of families each year.

During the COVID-19 pandemic Harbor House is offering safe and stable in-person learning pods, one-on-one virtual tutoring, grab-and-go food bags distributed from our parking lot Tuesday mornings, leadership development opportunities for high school students, virtual ESL class for adults, and emergency relief funds for families who have lost jobs.
